Dow's nearly 50-point jump led by gains in shares of Caterpillar, 3M

Shares of Caterpillar and 3M are trading higher Wednesday afternoon, lifting the Dow Jones Industrial Average into positive territory. Shares of Caterpillar CAT and 3M MMM are contributing around a quarter of the blue-chip gauge’s intraday rally, as the Dow DJIA was most recently trading 47 points higher (0.1%). Caterpillar’s shares have gained $8.73, or 3.6%, while those of 3M are up $3.73, or 3.5%, combining for a roughly 82-point boost for the Dow. Dow DOW, Intel INTC, and Salesforce CRM are also contributing significantly to the gain. A $1 move in any one of the 30 components of the Dow equates to a 6.59-point swing.
