NEW DELHI: The Nifty Bank index closed on a negative note on Thursday.
Shares of Axis Bank(up 0.8 per cent) and HDFC Bank(up 0.01 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, ICICI Bank(down 1.85 per cent), Bank of Baroda(down 1.41 per cent), Bandhan Bank(down 1.41 per cent), Kotak Mahindra Bank(down 1.35 per cent) and Federal Bank(down 1.25 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Bank index closed 0.77 per cent down at 41256.75.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 164.8 points at 17589.6, while the BSE Sensex stood down 541.81 points at 59806.28.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 13 ended in the green, while 37 closed in the red.
Shares of YES Bank, Suzlon Energy, Zomato Ltd., Tata Steel and Adani Power were among the most traded shares on the NSE. Shares of S Chand & Co, Lead Reclaim and Rubber Products Ltd., Geekay Wires, Revathi Equip and Usha Martin hit their fresh 52-week highs in today’s trade, while Baheti Recycling Industries Ltd., MPS Infotecnics, Libas Designs, DRS Dilip Roadlines and GRM Overseas hit their fresh 52-week lows.
