An Oklahoma viewer reached out to News 9 for advice on managing high blood pressure. Dr. Lacey Anderson shared several tips during Monday’s Daily Dose segment.
Anderson said several types of medications lower blood pressure in different ways. Some, such as diuretics, help the body remove excess fluid by increasing urination, which decreases blood volume. Others slow the heart rate, relax blood vessels, or block kidney-produced hormones that raise blood pressure.
“For some people, it takes more than one or two medications to get your blood pressure down,” Anderson said. “If your blood pressure is still running high at night, be sure to call your doctor. They may be able to increase the dose of your blood pressure medication or add another medication to bring it down.”
Clinical Trial Underway
Anderson also noted that Tecton Research is seeking participants for a clinical trial testing a new blood pressure medication. Eligible participants will receive free medication and compensation for their time.
