Lisa Lopez-Williamson wishes her family had moved to Santa Fe in 2019.
“We would have been able to get a pretty decent deal” on a home back then, she said.
Instead, they moved to the city in 2022, when housing costs were far higher. They rent an 800-square-foot casita for $1,750 a month, plus utilities. They own a home in Albuquerque, where Lopez-Williamson previously worked as a school librarian, but are renting it to a relative. They decided to move to Santa Fe to avoid the hourlong commute to her current job at Gonzales Community School.
