Senate Bill 310 is the fiscal year 2021-2022 appropriations bill that will advance projects across the state that stimulate local economies and provide Ohioans with improved facilities to enjoy.
The following statement can be attributed in full, or in part, to Bill Stanley, Ohio State Director for The Nature Conservancy:
“Through SB 310, statewide investment is being made in our green spaces and parks, which can boost local economies and improve Ohioans’ quality of life. As just one example, the bill appropriates $350,000 for the Adams County Welcome Center, which will provide a hub for the county’s growing tourism industry. The Nature Conservancy (TNC) has been active in the county for over 60 years and has witnessed firsthand the role that the county plays in providing unmatched recreational, scientific and wildlife viewing opportunities for the state of Ohio.
According to data shared by our partner, the Adams County Visitors and Tourism Bureau, visits to explore the natural areas of Adams County are at an all-time high. But there is still tremendous opportunity for growth. Additional infrastructure is needed to attract visitors and encourage them to return. The Adams County Welcome Center is the centerpiece of the infrastructure needed to firmly establish the region as one of Ohio’s premier recreational areas. TNC is excited to be a partner in the economic growth of the region and is happy to see such a worthwhile investment go to Adams County for the construction of a new Welcome Center.
We also support the Governor and his Administration’s continued support of the important Clean Ohio program as well as appropriations for $317 million in capital projects under the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, including support of the Healthy Lake Erie Initiative and over $18 million for much-needed State Park renovations and upgrades.
Ohio’s natural areas are not a story of ‘either economic or environmental health.’ They are a story of ‘and.’ These investments in our state celebrate—and fortify—the natural wealth of Ohio, which strengthens our local and regional economies, attracts investment in our state and protects the essential resources we rely on every day.â€
