Scientists from University College London have developed a novel approach to treating high blood pressure that, according to early trials, seems to work at least as well as medication. AffeX is an electrical stimulator that clips to your ear and when worn for half an hour a day lowers blood pressure by influencing control of the heart and cardiovascular system via the vagus nerve (a branch of which terminates in the ear).

It is a clever, cheap solution that could be available within a couple of years subject to research, but don’t ditch the pills just yet.
