DALLAS – Orion Cosce beat Blood Diamond with a unanimous decision Saturday to open the preliminary card at UFC 277 in Dallas.

Take a look inside the fight with Cosce, who got his first UFC win and finally fought Diamond after two previous bookings had been canceled.

“My corners, all three of them, were saying, ‘Hey, he’s going to try to bait you to come in. That way, he can throw his little short hooks. We’ve seen that a lot with (Diamond’s teammate) Israel Adesanya. Israel doesn’t really push forward – he counters. But he’s so good it that he looks like he’s pressing the pace. That’s the same thing with Blood Diamond. We knew that if he came in too heavy, he was going to be too heavy on his legs, and that’s what helped me, I feel like, was there was times he came in a little too heavy and I was able to get that body lock.”

“I did my darnedest to cut that weight. I didn’t sleep. We started cutting weight the night before at 6-8 (p.m.) and I cut four pounds. I was running, treadmill, sauna suit, and I felt good. I was like, ‘Cool. I’ll cut another four or five pounds tonight.’ We spent like three hours cutting (more) weight, and only a pound and a half came off. My team just decided, ‘Dude, whatever we’ve got to do to make weight.’ And it’s the same weight cut I’ve done since I was 19. I had my first amateur fight when I was 19. It’s the same water-loading technique I’ve been doing since I was 19. And it just didn’t work this time.

“(I’m) definitely going to use the UFC (Performance Institute), talk to all those guys, and get a better body diagnostic test and see where my muscle density, my bone density is. A pound and a half – it sucks, because I tried my hardest and pretty much the doctor was telling me if I’d have tried to cut that last pound and a half, they wouldn’t have let me fight.”

“I told myself, ‘Get the f*ck out there. Go fight. All these people are out here to support you.’ I have my wife out here, my corners came all this way. So we were not going to come out here and not fight this time. We were going to come out, put on a performance, and I said win or lose, I’m going to go out there and give it everything I have. So I’m glad I had the people in my corner to push me that last round, like, ‘Push it, motherf*cker. Get out there and push.”
