STATEWIDE – Maine had 34 thousand job openings in September.

That’s according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Their report out today shows Maine’s job opening rate in September was 4.9 percent.

The national rate was 4.5 percent.

Twenty three thousand people were actually hired for jobs in September.

Fifteen thousand quit their jobs and there were 9 thousand layoffs or people who were fired.

Maine was one of 35 states that had lower ratios than the national average when it came to unemployed people per job opening.
