Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) could potentially sell its OppenheimerFunds business or merge it with another asset manager. MassMutual is working with an investment bank Lazard Ltd. on a variety of options. OppenheimerFunds had a bit more than US$ 259 billion in assets under management at the end of July 2018.
MassMutual owns a number of brands of assets managers. In September 2016, MassMutual merged Babson Capital Management, Wood Creek Capital Management, Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers, and Baring Asset Management to form Barings.
