This part of the UK has been named as the most affordable and it’s a great place to live.

In Shildon, the median value of a home is £69,650 while the average income of a couple per year is £65,438.

In England, eight out of 10 of the most affordable areas are in the North East, with six in County Durham.

Shildon is a quaint town just 13 miles outside of Durham, putting it in the perfect position for city commuters who are looking to escape the hustle and bustle after work.

The study by Zoopla found that British couples can expect to pay nearly four times their combined salary to buy a home in 2023.

This is not the first time that Shildon has topped the list of most affordable place to live in the UK.

It offers charming countryside, great value for homebuyers and is also well connected with major transport links.

For first time home buyers, Shildon is perfect as it has space for outdoor activities and also offers easy routes to major cities. The area is popular among young families.

At the time of writing, the cheapest property is on sale for £5,000. Following this, the next cheapest is on sale for £10,000.

Shildon is located just 25 minutes away from Durham by car and can be easily reached. This prime location leaves residents with the best of both worlds – access to the countryside and the city.

The town has an interesting history, it is home to a Locomotion Museum as the first station in England was built on the Stockton and Darlington Railway.

Hackworth Park is a park in Shildon town centre named after Timothy Hackworth, locomotive engineer. The park contains a drinking fountain created to commemorate one of the engines he designed and also has a statue of him.

If you’re looking to buy a property in an affordable yet homely area – Shildon could be the perfect place for you.
