In the third week of the campaign the major parties have thrown billions at policies to address the housing crisis.

Labor says it’ll build 100,000 new homes for first home buyers at a cost of $10 billion. It’ll also expand the existing 5 per cent deposit guarantee which allows buyers with a small deposit to avoid lenders insurance.

The Coalition instead will allow first home buyers to deduct the interest they pay on a mortgage on a newly built home for five years. It will also allow access to superannuation balances to help pay for a deposit.
