Texas added nearly 27,000 new jobs in March, according to latest report

The report from the Texas Workforce Commission also found that from March 2024 to March 2025, Texas added 192,000 non-farm jobs.

AUSTIN, Texas — The labor market in Texas continues to see steady growth, according to new data released by the Texas Workforce Commission.

According to the report, Texas added 26,500 positions over the month of March to reach a total of 14,282,600 nonfarm jobs across the state. Additionally, from March 2024 to March 2025, the state added 192,000 non-farm jobs – the most of any state.

According to the report, the private education and health services industries had the largest over-the-month increase in March, adding 9,500 jobs. Construction added 8,500 jobs over the month and trade, transportation and utilities jobs added 6,100. The construction industry grew by 3.4% over the year in Texas, outperforming the industry’s growth rate on the national level by 1.6%.

In the Austin area, the current unemployment rate sits at about 3.4%, which is lower than the statewide rate of 4.1%. The Midland metro had the lowest unemployment rate among Texas metro areas, with a 2.9% unemployment rate in March, followed by the Amarillo and San Angelo metros, who both had unemployment rates of 3.1%.
