Kardashian has said she works out for her mental health
Khloé Kardashian has never shied away from sharing her health journey.
The Good American founder began working out in the mid-2010s as a way to heal from her divorce with her ex-husband Lamar Odom. Though Kardashian has never been a fan of the scale, her personal trainer Joel Bouraima told PEOPLE in 2018 that the reality star — who, at the time, had just welcomed her daughter True — had lost 40 lbs. since she gave birth.

The podcast host — who has also launched several projects related to her weight loss, including her 2015 memoir Strong Looks Better Naked and 2017 show Revenge Body — has also been candid on the downsides of her health journey, including mixed reactions from the public.
“It’s not that easy. I’ve been working out for like 10 years, it’s baby steps,” Kardashian said during a 2025 episode of her podcast, Khloé in Wonderland. “It’s taken me a very long time to get to where I am and people forget that and all of the work that it takes from within.”
From her workout routine to her favorite snacks, here’s everything Khloé Kardashian has said about her health journey over the years.

“My weight loss journey started because I was getting a divorce,” Kardashian told Bustle in a December 2024 interview.
Though the gym eventually became Kardashian’s safe space, it wasn’t necessarily her first option. The reality star revealed that she initially tried going to therapy first following her split from Odom, but reportedly had some of her private conversations leaked to the press.
“I remember I was going to therapy and the next thing I knew, something private I told my therapist was on a tabloid,” Kardashian said. “So I stopped going to therapy and started going to the gym. I needed a release, but I did not trust anybody else anymore. And the place that I felt the safest was the gym.”
“As a byproduct, my body started changing,” she continued. “I loved the way I felt. I loved testing myself and challenging myself. And I’ve been doing it for 10-plus years now, and I love it.”

Speaking to Health in October 2021, Kardashian got candid about her prior “unhealthy relationship” with food and how working out inspired her to adopt a lifestyle change.
“When I was younger and was sad, I would eat — I was an emotional eater,” she said. “And then I hated the way I felt after that. I was almost punishing myself for binging or having a bag of chips.”
The Khloud Protein Popcorn founder added that she had “tried every diet under the sun,” to little success. The turning point came, however, after she realized that she needed to make small shifts.
“When I started working out, I decided to make some lifestyle changes,” Kardashian said. “So I’d say, for example, this week I am just going to do one thing — I’m just going to cut out sugar. Then, maybe I’d try to do it for a month. After that, I’d try to incorporate another healthy change.”

“I’m at this stage in my [health] journey for the past few years that I’ve been really trying to up my protein intake,” Kardashian told PEOPLE in April 2025. “I’m all about muscle definition and being strong and healthy, not just skinny.”
But Kardashian still allows herself to enjoy the snacks she loves.
“I love a kid’s menu. I am never going to get rid of that,” she added. “I think I’ll always be a snacker. I just want to feel good about the things I’m eating.”

Kardashian has shared countless glimpses into her morning workout routine over the years.
The reality star often wakes up early to get her workout in with Bouraima, which typically consists of circuit training and cardio. In a June 2016 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she revealed that she was also a fan of Pilates and SoulCycle and worked out three to five times a week.

Though Kardashian has denied ever using Ozempic to lose weight, she has admitted that she would have likely used the diabetes drug at the start of her health journey.
“When I was bigger, if they had Ozempic, I probably would have tried it because I tried any other thing,” Kardashian said in a season 5 episode of her family’s reality show. “I tried any fad weight loss trend, except for the real thing that actually works and that’s a lifestyle change.”
While Kardashian has expressed her openness to others using Ozempic, she has still voiced her frustration toward critics who believe she’s used it — or gotten surgery — herself.

“Over the past three years, people are like, ‘You must have gotten surgery because you just lost weight.’ I’m like, ‘It’s been a 10-year journey! What are you talking about?’ ” Kardashian told Bustle in 2024. “But even if people get surgery or [get on] the Ozempic craze, I’m like, ‘Who cares!’ As long as people feel good about themselves, who am I to judge?”
“I think it’s ridiculous, the judgment on that,” she continued. “I’m just mad [Ozempic] wasn’t around 10 years ago.”

Kardashian has never shied away from having candid conversations on the public’s mixed reaction to her weight.
In a June 2025 episode of her podcast Khloé in Wonder Land, the reality star opened up on how the public reacted to her body during the earlier years of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

“I never thought I was fat until I got on TV and everyone told me how fat I was,” Kardashian said. “I didn’t know I was fat. What’s interesting is, looking back, I’m like, ‘Wait, I actually wasn’t as fat as even I convinced myself that I was.’ ”
In addition to viewers, Kardashian said she was treated differently by stylists after she lost weight.
“I definitely think the fashion industry, and people in general, look at me more now that I’ve lost weight,” she told Harper’s Bazaar in 2016. “Even on shoots, I would never have options for clothing. There would always be this attention on Kourtney and Kim, but I was too much work for [stylists] or they had nothing in my size. I wasn’t even that crazy big!”
“Other [stylists] actually said, ‘I just can’t work with you’ — because I was too big. That always hurt my feelings, of course,” Kardashian continued, adding that those same stylists later began approaching her after she lost weight.

Kardashian has said that her health journey has never been about the number on the scale, but about adopting a healthier lifestyle.
“I never thought about the number,” the podcaster told Harper’s Bazaar in 2016. “When I started seeing that I could lose weight — because I just thought my body would never change — I started taking it more seriously and eating better.”
The reality star later told Bustle that she thinks the obsession with weight is something people grow out of with age.

“Maybe [it’s] just being younger, I think you care about the scale,” Kardashian said. “The scale effs with you. I don’t even look at a scale anymore. I think it’s really unhealthy. I haven’t in years. They’re just numbers.”
