Lucy Davies, 32, from South Wales, has lost nearly six stone in less than a year after taking Mounjaro since September 2024 – but has been left “skint” as a result of the weight loss jabs

A mum has been left “skint” after shelling out nearly £2,500 on weight loss jabs – yet insists “being skinny is worth the price tag” following a wardrobe overhaul and monthly vitamin purchases.

Lucy Davies, 32, has shed light on the “hidden” costs tied to the weight loss medication, Mounjaro, which she’s been using for ten months since September 2024.

The hefty price of the injectable pens, at £180 a pop each month, has made a significant dent in her finances despite her impressive six stone weight drop.

In addition to the injections, Lucy has had to splash out on an array of new outfits after slimming down from a size 22 to a size 12-14.

Coupled with the pricey monthly vitamins to maintain her nutritional health, Lucy likens the ongoing expenses to “another tax”.

Despite the financial strain, Lucy, who hails from Pontypridd, South Wales and works in insurance, has “no regrets” about her decision to use the weight loss drug, having gone from 16st 11lbs to 11stone. However, she cautions others to weigh up the “financial burden” before embarking on the treatment.

Lucy commented: “It’s one of best things I’ve done, but financially it’s a lot.

“You need a new pen each month, and it gets more and more expensive as you up the dosage.

“None of my clothes or bras fit me anymore, so I’m constantly having to buy new clothes.

“You also have to take vitamins while on Mounjaro, so it all adds up.

“It’s worth it, you can’t put a price on health.

“I’m so much healthier now, I’m more active and happier.

“But it’s a lot a month, especially when you have other outgoings and children.”

At her heaviest, Lucy, who describes herself as an “emotional eater” tipped the scales at 16st 11lb, leaving her feeling “rubbish” and “depressed”.

Despite trying various diets and weight loss programmes, she found she “mentally couldn’t do it” and was unable to lose the weight.

Lucy turned to Mounjaro in September 2024 after discovering an online pharmacy and discussing it with her GP.

The initial pen set her back £113, but the cost has since climbed to £180 per month.

Lucy shared: “Mounjaro took the food noise out of my head.”

She confessed: “I’d struggled with my weight for a long time, comforting eating was a mega part of putting on weight.”

Lucy noticed a change immediately, saying: “As soon as I started Mounjaro, I just didn’t think about food.”

She boasted: “I lost half a stone in the first week.”

However, her rapid weight loss led to a hospital stay for gallstones in April 2025, yet she remained “committed” to her weight loss journey and kept up with the costly injections.

On top of the injections, Lucy also shells out for daily vitamins.

Her regimen includes digestive enzymes to combat gastrointestinal side effects like indigestion or bloating, magnesium, fish oil, and hair and skin supplements, as Mounjaro can lead to hair loss for some users.

She reckons these extras add about £25 to her monthly expenses.

In ten months, Lucy has dropped two bra sizes and four dress sizes, finding herself shopping “weekly” for new clothes to fit her shrinking frame.

Lucy has shelled out a hefty £500 on a new wardrobe due to her swift weight loss journey.

She explained: “It’s taken all my money because I’m constantly having to buy new clothes.

“I tried a dress on from last summer that I thought I could get away with, and it looked like a black bag, it was just drowning me.”

Yet, despite the significant expense of Mounjaro, Lucy insists it’s “totally worth it”.

She added: “Once you start losing the weight, you want to be able to afford it.

“Once you commit, you can’t stop.

“That’s why it’s important to weigh up if you can afford it before you start.

“I used to spend so much on takeaways before, so for me it’s sort of balanced itself out.”
