Andy Cohen is the latest celebrity to reveal he’s using medication for weight loss.
The reality TV kingpin has opened up on his experience with the wildly popular Ozempic-like drugs that many have turned to for help shedding pounds.
He shared the news Tuesday during the “Viewer Mail” segment of his SiriusXM “Andy Cohen Live” radio show, when co-host John Arthur Hill read comments from listeners regarding his new look.
“Here’s what I will say… I do think that it would be completely hypocritical not to share that I did, this summer, lose a good chunk of weight by microdosing a GLP-1,” said the 57-year-old father of two, though he didn’t identify which medication he used.
“As you know from listening to this show, I was really unhappy with my weight,” he continued. “My doctor and I talked about this last year, had recommended a GLP-1 a few times to not only address what I was feeling about my weight, but treat plaque in my arteries and high blood pressure. This is a medication that actually is beneficial to a lot of elements of health and I finally said ‘yes.’”
GLP-1 drugs such as Ozempic, Wegovy or Zepbound have been known to not only treat diabetes but to help users lose weight. According to the Cleveland Clinic, other health benefits include lowering blood pressure and reducing risks of heart disease and kidney disease.
The “Real Housewives” producer, who confessed to having problems with eating too many snacks on the set of his late night Bravo talk show, “Watch What Happens Live,” said the GLP-1 has “really helped” curb his cravings, in addition to helping him “be more disciplined” with his diet and exercise plans.
Cohen made sure to remind his listeners to seek the advice of a medical professional if they’re considering weight loss medication.
“I feel privileged to have access to a GLP-1 and I think everybody should through insurance,” he said. “This is a revolutionary drug. I’m so happy also to have been on this journey under the care of a doctor and working with a trainer to make sure that we have done this right.”
