Supermodel Caprice Bourret has warned about weight-loss injections after experiencing severe side effects, including dizziness, nausea, and heart palpitations
Caprice Bourret has spoken out about the dangers of weight-loss injections after experiencing severe side effects from Mounjaro.
The 53-year-old model, known for her long-standing career in fashion and television, said she turned to the injection after gaining 20lbs last year, increasing from a size 8 to a 12. Caprice said the weight gain left her struggling physically and emotionally.
“My health was deteriorating and I was feeling really bad about myself,” the model revealed. “Even small things like walking up the stairs left me huffing and puffing. I would get out of bed, and my back and joints were inflamed and stiff because of the additional weight. I started to get sick more often, so I knew my immunity was being compromised.”

She explained that the gain came after easing off her usual health routine and indulging in chocolate and red wine. Bourret said that, combined with menopause, losing the weight naturally proved extremely difficult.
Her doctor prescribed a “microdose” of Mounjaro, but Caprice quickly discovered the side effects were too much to manage. “It was awful. I got sick to my stomach. I got dizzy and lightheaded, but I kept persisting because I needed to lose the weight,” she said.
She added that she began experiencing heart palpitations, which she described as alarming for someone her age. “Then I started having these weird heart palpitations. Who has that at 53? I was too young for what was going on,” the model told The Sun.
After losing only five pounds in two months, Caprice discontinued the injection and returned to a strict diet, cutting out carbohydrates and processed sugar to shed the remaining weight naturally.
She also revealed that several friends who have used Mounjaro or Ozempic have suffered side effects, including loose skin and hair loss.
“When you take Mounjaro for a long time, your skin changes and loosens. I’ve seen it with my friends. You think you are going to avoid it but you don’t,” she said. “Some of them even lost their hair because they were starving their bodies.”
She urged caution, acknowledging that while natural weight loss is harder, it is safer in the long term. Although some people use Ozempic to aid weight loss, it is not licensed for this and should only be used by people with diabetes to aid their symptoms.
Caprice, who grew up in Hacienda Heights, Los Angeles, left home at 17 to pursue modelling in New York. She rose to prominence in the 1990s after appearing in a daring Versace lace dress at the National TV Awards and went on to become a regular on magazine covers.
She later built a successful lingerie business, a property portfolio, and launched her own production company, JJLove Productions, named after her sons Jett and Jax.
The model continues to work across fashion and film, with her latest movie, A Scottish Christmas Secret, set to air on Channel 5 later this year.
Caprice has said that despite the challenges of menopause and natural aging, she remains committed to health and wellness while pursuing her professional projects.
