Emilly Murray, 35, lost an incredible 13 stone but hit a stubborn plateau – until she discovered two simple changes that helped her reach her goal weight

A mother who hit a weight loss stall whilst on jabs has discovered how to overcome the ‘Mounjaro plateau’. Emilly Murray, 35, tipped the scales at 22st 1.5lbs and wore a size 30 at her heaviest, before beginning Mounjaro treatment – a Christmas gift she had requested from her father, Paul Murray, 55.

However, after dropping to an impressive 11 stone, Emilly’s progress came to a halt. Determined to achieve her target weight of 10 stone, she increased her daily water consumption to two to three litres while also boosting her intake of meat and fish.

The strategy worked, and she has now begun shedding pounds once more – ultimately reaching her goal of 9 stone. Emilly, a content creator from Liverpool, explained: “The fat jabs were working for a while. I have been on diets for two years, so I knew that if I changed something there, it would hopefully help me get to my dream weight.

“I couldn’t shift the weight over Christmas, and I think that because it is the winter, you are just eating a bit different and you just need to adapt to make it.

“I also think that once your body hits certain weights, it must get comfortable being there, so you just need to find something that can shift it again. Water is dead important to remember to drink. I would recommend drinking around two to three litres, that is what I do.”, reports Bristol Live.

Prior to Mounjaro, Emilly was consuming approximately 5,000 calories daily. Despite numerous attempts to control her appetite, her previous eating habits included Chinese takeaways, pizza, chocolates, and Haribo sweets.

After embarking on a “life-changing journey” with the injections in December 2024, Emilly now snacks on fruit and cheese, ensuring she consumes plenty of protein, meat, and fish. However, when her weight loss stalled in December 2025, she experimented with various TikTok tips to overcome the plateau.

She discovered that maintaining a good protein and water intake helped shift the stubborn weight – alongside continuing on Mounjaro. She explained: “Protein is amazing, it keeps you keep full for longer.

“It is better for metabolism, but it is also good all round. When you are on the jabs you tend to not only lose fat but muscle mass, and the protein is very good for you.

“I upped the amount of meat and fish I was eating, and I take a lot of creatine powder too. I have a raspberry lemonade one that I can take with water.”

She emphasised that water is crucial whilst on Mounjaro. She noted: “In the summer when you are hot and sweaty, you tend to drink lots of water, so its important you do this over winter too. When you don’t look after your body, it seems to slip a little, and people forget water is a huge part of looking after yourself.”

She admitted her diet deteriorated over Christmas. She revealed: “Over Christmas my diet slipped a little. Every man and their dog eats worse at Christmas – you’re eating higher rich foods.

“It causes people to feel really sluggish and rubbish. My skin was dry, and I even began to get spots – and I never been a spotty person. It’s simple really – if you eat rubbish, you feel rubbish.”

Despite shelling out around £1,500 in a year on the injections, she still believes it is still less than what she used to spend annually on snacks, takeaways and food on the go.

She expressed: “Mounjaro was the best Christmas gift ever. I feel amazing, the healthiest I have ever been. Everything is so much better. I sleep comfortably, I can chase the kids about and walk up the stairs without getting out of breath. I hit my goal weight recently, so I am hoping to come off of them.”

Recent research from the British Medical Journal has indicated that users of weight-loss injections are more likely to regain weight within two years, compared to traditional dieters. Researchers have cautioned that users could find themselves reliant on injections for life if they wish to maintain their weight loss.

Emilly stated: “People think obesity is a choice – it’s not – it’s a disease. I won’t be embarrassed if I need to go back on them, there is a chance I will have to.

“Weight loss jabs are medication – and like any medication – if you come off, you will experience some changes. My plan is to wean down on them. Hopefully if I stick with my diet and training, I won’t need to have them again.”
