Lizzo poked fun at the rumors that she used Ozempic to lose weight by dressing as the type 2 diabetes drug for Halloween. The singer shared photos of her epic costume via Instagram on Saturday, October 26.
While wearing a box of “Ozempic” that branded her name across the front and a tape measure wrapped around the top, Lizzo, 36, posed for a faux advertisement that read, “Need self love? Try Lizzo! Lose guilt, gain confidence.” The bottom of the fake ad said, “Side effects include: A smile on your face and a pep in your step.” She completed the look with white heels and captioned her post, “Ok Halloween … you can start now.”
In other photos, she posed with South Park’s Eric Cartman to acknowledge the episode the show aired about her called “The End of Obesity.” She also danced with someone dressed as the cartoon character in another clip, which she captioned, “It’s that time of year where I feed y’all so ridiculously and you’re so very welcome baby.”
She confirmed the inspiration behind her costume by captioning another post, “LizzOzempic dump.”
After debuting her weight loss earlier this year, Lizzo clapped back at Ozempic speculation in September. “When you finally get Ozempic allegations after five months of weight training and calorie deficit,” she wrote in a video on Instagram.
The “About Damn Time” artist has been open about losing weight naturally, crediting workouts and eating healthy as the reason behind why she was able to drop more than 60 pounds. “I’ve been methodical, losing weight very slowly,” she shared in April. “I don’t really see it because if anyone who’s on a natural weight loss journey knows, losing weight is actually the slowest thing in the world and you don’t really notice it until you notice it. Also the scale’s not really moving. But anyway, that doesn’t matter. I’m super proud of my current lifestyle.”
Earlier this month, she filled fans in on what she’s been eating and said that adding animal protein to her diet after formerly being a vegan helped with her health journey. Lizzo said she was inspired to change her diet after traveling to Japan and noticing “how clean and delicious their food was.”
“I indulged in fresh sushi, fluffy eggs and I was amazed at how good my body felt the next day,” she explained. While she said she still believes being vegan “is the healthiest diet,” she added, “[I] aspire to one day be a raw alkaline vegan. Until then, this is the diet that’s helped me reach my goals and helped me feel good in my body.”
Her daily food intake includes items like eggs, cauliflower hash browns, buffalo chicken lettuce wraps, grilled chicken, and vegetables like asparagus and carrots.
“She could do without all the haters,” a source exclusively told Life & Style. “Losing weight is hard enough without the nasty comments that come her way. That said, she has a lot of friends who are rooting for her and that’s helped to take the sting out.”
