Milton Keynes council is expected to purchase 21 new flats to let out to families deemed to be in need.
The flats are currently under construction and expected to be available to families awaiting council homes from January. A council decision to approve the purchase of the 18 two-bedroom flats and three one-bedroom properties is due to take place next week.
The purchase is being funded by money the council has obtained through properties sold via Right to Buy and developer contributions towards affordable housing.
A council spokesperson says: “We’re really pleased that we’re able to buy these high-quality flats, which will provide a safe and secure home for families in need. We’re always looking at ways we can increase our housing offer whether that’s building homes ourselves or buying them on the market.
“That said, we’ve seen a huge rise in demand and we’re doing our best to house the people most in need. We’ll continue our efforts to prevent homelessness in the first place and support people find a home that’s right for them.”
