Applications open for public housing through Memphis Housing Authority

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Applications are open if you’re looking for public housing through Memphis Housing Authority.

The deadline is noon Wednesday.

This a unique opportunity because there are 11 public housing sites accepting applications for their waitlist.

While the application gets you on the waitlist, it does not guarantee the applicant public housing. People are pulled from the list as units become available.

Dexter Washington with Memphis Housing Authority said the department will open the waitlist when the list gets down to about 100 people. He said this highlights the housing crisis in Memphis, adding that the department will end up getting several thousand applications.

The deadline to apply is noon Wednesday, Nov. 20.

FOX13 has learned that there’s been issues with the registration process.
