Midlands man plans to buy house after winning lottery

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Christmas came early for a Midlands man when he won $500,000 on the lottery’s holiday scratch-off game, said SC Lottery officials.

He purchased the $10 Shimmering Riches ticket at the Broad River Mart on Broad River Road in Columbia.

The winner told lottery officials he was shocked when he scratched off that many zeros to bring home a half-a-million dollar prize.

“When I look at my bank account, I can’t believe it,” he told South Carolina Education Lottery officials after cashing in the big win.

So far, he has added one item to his Christmas list.

“I’m trying to find a house,” he said.

Lottery officials said the win leaves three top prizes of $500,000 in Shimmering Riches game at odds of 1 in 1,128,000.
