European stocks were sliding Thursday as investors fretted about ongoing trade tensions between China and the U.S.
The continent’s flagship Stoxx 600 index fell 0.2% in morning trading. Frankfurt’s Dax was down 0.4%, London’s FTSE 100 slipped 0.2%, and Paris’s CAC 40 dropped 0.4%.
The gauges were sliding after Chinese officials denied reports that Beijing and Washington had opened talks on tariffs, following on from a similar rebuttal by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
