Stock market today: Indian equity benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and Nifty50, opened in green on Monday. While BSE Sensex was near 76,800, Nifty50 was above 23,200. At 9:16 AM, BSE Sensex was trading at 76,792.36, up 173 points or 0.23%. Nifty50 was at 23,245.85, up 43 points or 0.18%.
Markets declined approximately one percent last week, continuing their consolidation phase. Foreign institutional investors’ ongoing selling, mixed quarterly corporate results, and escalating crude oil prices affected market sentiment negatively.
Analysts expect cautious market behaviour next week, influenced by various domestic and global factors. Major companies including Hindustan Unilever, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, BPCL, and Hindustan Petroleum are scheduled to announce their results.
Nifty shows a weak short-term trend within range movement. Breaking above 23,400 could trigger renewed buying interest. Support exists at 23,100, according to Nagaraj Shetti of HDFC Securities.
US markets concluded a strong week with substantial gains in S&P 500 and Dow indices. Economic optimism and favourable earnings reports outweighed inflation worries and Trump policy uncertainties. Intel and Qorvo shares notably increased in the technology sector.
Asian indices advanced early Monday, following US markets’ performance after positive dialogue between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping.
Oil prices improved Monday amid supply concerns following US sanctions on Russia’s energy sector.
Foreign portfolio investors sold Rs 3,318 crore on Friday, while domestic institutional investors purchased Rs 2,573 crore.
FIIs’ net short position increased from Rs 2.97 lakh crore Thursday to Rs 3.26 lakh crore Friday.
