US Stock Market Closing Bell: Dow falls 188 pts, S&P 500 flat; Apple slides to $240

US Stock Market Close (February 26), Dow Jones, S&P 500, Nasdaq: Wall Street benchmarks—the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite—finished a session full of choppy moves on a mixed note on Thursady, after US President Donald Trump hinted at a 25 per cent tariff on imports from the European Union soon. The 47th President of the US raised hopes for another pause on steep new tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada when he said they would take effect on April 2.

What rose and what fell? Buying interest in IT stocks—as investors awaited NVIDIA results—was outweighed by selling in spaces such as consumer staples, healthcare and realty. Apple fell 2.7 per cent to end at $240.4 per share while NVIDIA closed 3.7 per cent higher at $131.3 apiece.

Broadly, investors remained cautious fearing policy uncertainty after Trump’s announcements this month that he would announce tariffs covering newer areas.

US Stock Market on Wednesday, February 26 | Here is how Dow Jones, S&P 500 & Nasdaq fared at the closing bell

  • DJIA: down 188 pts, or 0.4 per cent, at 43,433.1
  • S&P 500: up 0.8 pt at 5,956.1
  • Nasdaq: up 48.9 points, or 0.3 per cent, at 19,075.26
