According to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s (DETR) June 2025 economic report, Nevada’s unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 percentage points and now sits at 5.4 percent and the labor force grew by 3,328.
The total number of nonfarm jobs in Nevada was 1,572,500, an increase of 0.3 percent over the past year and a decrease of 4,800 jobs since May 2025.
Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) Employment (Seasonally Adjusted):
— Carson City employment had a decrease of 100 jobs (-0.3%) since May, an increase of 300 jobs (0.9%) since June 2024.
— Reno employment had a decrease of 1,700 jobs (-0.6%) since May, an increase of 1,500 jobs (0.5%) since June 2024.
— Las Vegas employment decreased by 2,300 jobs (-0.2%) since May, a decrease of 2,000 jobs (-0.2%) since June 2024.
“As we conclude the first six months of 2025, this report shows that the same trends continue – slow but steady job growth overall, a small decline in the unemployment rate, and labor force participation that continues to outperform the nation. This month, we saw a noticeable decline in government employment, focused in the local school districts and state higher education system. While summer vacation causes a temporary decline in these industries from May to June, those declines were more pronounced this year and lead to a seasonally adjusted decline of 4,000 jobs in state and local government from May to June,” said David Schmidt, Chief Economist.
