The government shutdown entered its third day Friday with little sign of the deadlock between Republicans and Democrats coming to an end.
The Senate is expected to hold more votes on the short-term funding bill Friday, which needs to pass for the government to reopen, CNBC reported. No voting was held Thursday because of the Yom Kippur holiday. Republicans need 60 votes for the bill to be approved but only have 53 senators–they won the previous vote 55-45.
However, if Friday’s votes don’t break the impasse the shutdown appears likely to run into next week at least–Senate Majority Leader John Thune said that weekend votes were “unlikely”, in comments made to reporters Thursday.
