BIG SKY, Mont. – Buck’s Restaurant in Big Sky is not only undergoing renovations with plans to reopen in 2025, but it is also contributing to solving the housing crisis in the area by creating more workforce housing.
The Lone Mountain Land Company is transforming an old motel into new workforce housing to address the community’s needs. “Priorities for Big Sky and for Lone Mountain Company have been to meet a wide spectrum of housing for our residents and community members,” said a representative. They emphasized the importance of “really meeting the needs of both seasonal workforce that are coming to spend their season here in Big Sky, as well as long-term rentals for families and upper management, middle management.”
Workers have already begun moving into the new apartments as they prepare for the ski season. Once construction is fully completed, the facility will accommodate up to 322 residents. The project is still under development, with two more phases set to bring additional units.
The median rent in Big Sky is around $3,500 a month, according to Zillow, which has prompted an effort to build affordable housing for workers.
As for Buck’s Restaurant, it is undergoing a significant refresh. The updated establishment will feature an enhanced arcade, a revised menu, and an updated bar space. The restaurant is expected to be completed before summer 2025.
