Harrisburg unveiled an $8 million fund to expand affordable housing projects by qualified developers.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Happening Monday, Aug. 11 in Harrisburg, the city will announce the details of an $8 million affordable housing development fund meant to help qualified developers expand housing options in the city.

The city said it’s part of their ongoing commitment to address the affordable housing crisis and provide residents, regardless of their income, access to safe and dignified places to live.

Developers who are interested in applying for this funding need to have already built or expanded affordable housing in Harrisburg.

They can apply to use the funds to either expand or enhance a previous affordable housing project or use them to close a funding gap for a project that’s already underway.

Developers can also use the funds to construct an entirely new affordable housing development in Harrisburg.

These applications will be reviewed by an independent committee appointed by Mayor Wanda Williams and will go through a strict scoring process.

“We are taking bold action to support the kind of housing development that meets the real needs of our community,” said Mayor Williams. “This is about putting resources where they will have the greatest impact—on the people who call Harrisburg home.”

Applications for this funding will open to developers following Monday’s press conference at 10 a.m. at the MLK Jr. City Government Center. The applications will be due by 5 p.m. on Sept. 5.
