DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — For their 10-year anniversary, Thrive Housing, a non-profit based in Harrisburg launches a 16-unit apartment building in Allison Hill. Currently taking applications for tenants ages 18-25 in varying housing situations.
Along with temporary housing to help young adults transition into permanent places of dwelling, the organization provides financial literacy, parenting tips, and other help like getting driver’s licenses.
“The problem in the gap was that after transitional housing it was also hard for youth and young adults to find housing into permanent housing so we worked with a couple organizations and an investor and put together this building which has 16 units and we dedicated it to 18-25 year olds,” said Dee Allen, the executive director of the organization.
She explained to CBS21’s Fatima Moien how 10 years ago herself and her husband were called ‘crazy’ for wanting to work with youth and now one of her own calls Thrive Housing home.
“Thrive [has] made me mature and learn so many things, I’m a first time mom, there’s things I didn’t know that my baby needed,” Bianca Marchiano, a Thrive participant said. “It’s helped me down the road with my baby girl.”
