Leaders from Maine’s largest bank and two chambers of commerce will headline a panel in early November that will focus on how to tackle the housing crisis.
Maine needs an estimated 80,000 new housing units by 2030, according to one estimate. The need has put a strain on businesses, nonprofits and local governments that cannot find enough workers because of the “unprecedented shortage of homes” across all price ranges.
To address the topic, a panel will be hosted on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m., at the Hannaford headquarters, at 145 Pleasant Hill Road in Scarborough.
Speakers will be:
- Patrick Woodcock, CEO, Maine State Chamber of Commerce
- Laura Mitchell, executive director, Maine Affordable Housing Coalition
- Quincy Hentzel, CEO, Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce
- Shannon Richards, president, MEREDA
- Kathy Hall, VP of corporate affairs, Lighthouse Credit Union
- David Turin, Portland restaurateur, David’s
- Bob Montgomery-Rice, CEO, Bangor Savings Bank.
The session will be hosted by Build Homes Build Community, a non-partisan and research-driven organization led by the Maine Affordable Housing Coalition, Maine Real Estate & Development Association, Maine State Chamber of Commerce, and the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce.
