Decades after playing the lead in the highest-grossing Christmas movie of all time, Home Alone, Macaulay Culkin almost purchased the iconic McCallister home in real life. He opened up about why the plan never came to fruition more than 30 years after the film was released.
“I had half a mind to buy it — just for giggles,” he said during a recent screening of the Christmas classic at Rosemont Theater in Illinois, according to The New York Times. The home was put on the market for $5.25 million in May 2024.
He hoped to turn the Illinois home into a “movie fun house” to give fans the same experience that Kevin McCallister had in the 1990 holiday comedy film. But, the actor admitted that he’s been focused on several other aspects of his life at the moment.

“I got kids. I’m busy, man,” he explained of the reason why he did not purchase the home.
The Golden Globe nominee shares two kids with Brenda Song. Macaulay, 44, said that his eldest son has seen Home Alone.
“I already showed it to him last year, he thinks it’s so funny,” the dad of two said during a December 2023 interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I convinced my oldest that he’s the kid in the movie. I said, ‘Remember you had yellow hair? Remember when you were getting the bad guys?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah!’ He is such a liar. I’m like, ‘You don’t remember any of that.'”
Brenda, 36, and both of the kids were in attendance to see Macaulay receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“It’s the reason pretty much to do anything now,” he explained. “We always talk about how we don’t remember our life before our kids — it’s a dream or a distant kind of concept, not a reality. I love the fact that my boys can come here and see a dog pee on my name.”
In his speech at the Walk of Fame ceremony, he thanked Brenda for being his biggest supporter.
“Lastly, but not leastly, I’d like to thank Brenda,” he said. “You are absolutely everything. You’re my champion. You’re the only person happier for me today than I am.”
“You’re not only the best woman I’ve ever known, you’re the best person I’ve ever known,” Macaulay said. “You’ve given me just all my purpose, you’ve given me family. After the birth of our two boys you’ve become my three favorite people. I love you so much.”

Macaulay also shared another memory from the set of Home Alone. He said that costar Joe Pesci, who played Harry in the film, allegedly gave him a scar during filming.
“He was trying to scare me,” Macaulay recalled. “He was like, I want to be menacing to this kid.”
Macaulay reportedly said that Joe bit him while rehearsing a scene, leaving him with a scar.
“I saw his face — and I’ve never, ever seen Joe Pesci actually scared,” he said. “Because he’s like, I just bit a kid!”
