BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — One city in Blair County was ranked as one of the best places for veterans to buy a house, according to a new study.

The study, conducted by the Navy Federal Credit Union, worked with Sperling’s BestPlaces to “evaluate and rank more than 400 U.S. cities and towns across the country based on a variety of quality-of-life metrics.”

Some of the metrics include:

  • Veteran success and wellness

  • Affordability

  • Economic health

  • Climate and environment health

  • Recreational opportunity

  • Crime rate

  • Community diversity and population change

  • Proximity to airport

  • Quality of schools

  • Health resources

Altoona, which also appeared on the list in 2022, was ranked number one on the list of best cities for veterans to buy a house. The list was compiled based on the cost of a house, tax prices, low crime rates, comfortable climate and strong amenities.
