It’s no secret that one of the most flavorful and filling types of cuisine out there is Indian food, but it’s also not always the healthiest.

While many Indian food recipes require lean proteins and vegetables, they can also include indulgent, high-fat, high-calorie sauces, which can easily hinder your weight loss journey. Some of the most famous dishes in America, like Chicken Tikka Masala, can be made using more calorie-dense ingredients. However, a content creator who has undergone an impressive health journey and lost 78 pounds, Kyle Smith, AKA Tasty Shreds, has found a way to adjust the dish so it’s more “high protein” and “low calorie.” Read more about how he makes it in only “10 minutes” below.

‘Tasty Shreds’ Preps His Chicken For His Low-Calorie Chicken Tikka Masala

Chicken is one of the first meats people think of when they look for lean sources of protein that can easily help people lose weight. After all, it is super versatile. When it comes to making a chicken tikka masala, you’ll want to ensure you’re taking advantage of all the spices that are often used in the dish.

To prep his low-calorie version of the meal, Kyle, whose followers say has “amazing results” so far with his weight loss, takes eight ounces of chicken breast and cuts it into bite-sized pieces. Then, he takes a homemade seasoning blend of turmeric, paprika, onion powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper, and pours it all over his chicken, mixing it up so it’s evenly coated.

Then, he adds his chicken to a pan over high heat, which he lightly sprays with oil, and cooks it until it’s done all the way.

Once his chicken is cooked through and nice and flavorful, he adds around 1/4th cup of store-bought tikka masala sauce to his pan, which saves some time from having to make it. Still, Kyle uses a mindful portion to prevent overdoing it on the higher-calorie sauce.

While his chicken continues to warm up and sit in the sauce, he uses a container of pre-cooked, microwavable brown rice, which is a slightly more nutritious version of the usual white rice included in chicken tikka masala recipes. If you want to go more low-carb, you could use half-brown rice and half-cauliflower rice as your base.

Once it’s time to assemble, he adds a portion of brown rice to a bowl, followed by his saucey chicken, using about a cup of each, before topping his meal with some chopped green onion for color, although that’s optional.

Kyle’s rendition of chicken tikka masala contains 530 calories and a whopping 68 grams of protein, making it an excellent choice for those looking to shed some weight but who also want to eat something warm and comforting.
