Amy Schumer denies she’s divorcing husband after dramatic weight loss

Amy Schumer and her husband, Chris Fischer, are not on the brink of divorce, as one recent report said, but remain committed to “working through the normal issues” that affect couples in long-term marriages.

That’s according to a source talking to People magazine on Thursday. “They are both committed to the relationship,” the source said.

But “a close friend” of Schumer told the Daily Mail a different story this week, saying that the 44-year-old comedian is “100 percent” ending her marriage of seven years, following a dramatic weight loss that she put on display in photos she shared on Instagram Tuesday.

“She got skinny. She is over it,” the friend said. Meanwhile, Fischer, a professional chef, “is mostly out of the house,” and the reportedly estranged couple are listing for sale their two homes in Brooklyn and New Orleans.

Schumer and Fischer, 45, tied the knot in 2018 and share a 6-year-old son named Gene. Divorce rumors heated up after Schumer wiped clean her entire Instagram account on Tuesday, before uploading a photo of herself, in a little red dress, looking svelte and not wearing a wedding ring. She said she deleted her old photos “for no reason” and declared, “I’m feeling good and happy.”

In a follow-up post, Schumer insisted that she didn’t delete her old photos because they showed her prior to her weight loss. “That’s a narrative you created,” she said, addressing the media. “I’m proud of how I’ve looked always.”

Schumer said her focus was never on losing weight but on being healthy and “pain free.” The “Trainwreck” star said her endometriosis is better, her back is healing and she no longer has Cushing’s syndrome, a disorder that causes the body to produce too much cortisol and can lead to weight gain. But she said she never went on “a weight loss journey” and expects that her weight “will always fluctuate,” given her age.

“I am grateful to be strong and healthy especially for my son,” she said.

A second source told the Daily Mail that Schumer’s physical transformation has changed her “from the inside out and for the better.” Schumer has been open in the past about undergoing liposuction and even trying popular weight loss drugs, Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro.

That source also said that Schumer and Fischer have been distant for some time.

“Amy doesn’t talk about Chris that much anymore, it’s like they are no longer close,” this second source said. “He is never around, and she has not taken him on a red carpet for months.”

This source also said that the couple have struggled with their differences. In her comedy, Schumer has been open those differences, especially about the fact that Fischer received a diagnosis for autism spectrum disorder soon after they wed. She’s made jokes about how his condition has played a role in their relationship.

“I knew from the beginning that my husband’s brain was a little different than mine,” Schumer said during her 2019 Netflix special “Growing.” She said, “My husband was diagnosed with what used to be called Asperger’s. He has autism spectrum disorder. He’s on the spectrum.”

“And once he was diagnosed, it dawned on me how funny it was, because all of the characteristics that make it clear that he’s on the spectrum are all of the reasons that I fell madly in love with him,” she said.

But one of the Daily Mail sources said that Fischer’s autism has become a challenge in how they interact. “He doesn’t even get her jokes, and being funny and making people laugh is important to her,” the second source said.

A third person told the Daily Mail: “Amy and Chris have been on a routine the last couple years, they have focused more on their child than their relationship and his brutal honesty being autistic is a blessing and a curse for Amy to where she has joked about it on some of her specials but it has also become a minor issue for their relationship.”

But the second source added that Schumer’s physical transformation also has been key to her seeing her marriage in a new light. “Amy has changed since losing weight, she is much lighter in her spirit, more easy going,” the source said. “I think she wants more out of life.”
