This post discusses weight loss, body image, and disordered eating.
In recent years, celebrities have talked more and more openly about using GLP-1* medications (Ozempic and Mounjaro) for weight loss.
*The Cleveland Clinic defines GLP-1 medications as “medications that help lower blood sugar levels and promote weight loss.”
Here’s a roundup of what various celebs have said about their experiences using weight loss medication:

After revealing that a “pre-diabetic” diagnosis prompted her to start prioritizing her health and well-being, Kelly revealed that she’d been prescribed weight loss medication by her doctor to help aid her body in breaking down sugars.
2. Serena Williams

Earlier this year, Serena opened up about taking a GLP-1 weight-loss medication in addition to continuing to exercise to achieve her current form. “I did a lot of research on it. I was like, ‘Is this a shortcut? What are the benefits? What are not the benefits?’ I really wanted to dive into it before I just did it. They were super supportive, and it was easy to get the medication. I lost over 31 pounds using my GLP-1, and I was really excited about that weight loss,” she said, adding, “I’m more active. My joints don’t hurt as much. I just feel like something as simple as just getting down is a lot easier for me. And I do it a lot faster. I feel like I have a lot of energy, and it’s great. I just feel pretty good about it.”

“GLP-1 helped me enhance everything that I was already doing — eating healthy and working out, whether it was as a professional athlete at the top level of tennis or just going to the gym every day. So I think that it’s important for everyone to hear my story. And I feel like there’s a lot of people that can relate,” she said.

Similarly, Amy raved about her “really great” experience using Mounjaro. “My symptoms of being in perimenopause have disappeared. My hair is fuller, my skin is better, I have more energy. I want to get down more, if you know what I mean — I’m talking about sex,” she said in an Instagram video in March. “So, yeah, that’s been great. Mounjaro’s been great…I’m having a really good experience, so I wanted to keep it real with you about that.”
4. Chrissy Teigen

In September, Chrissy opened up about using Ozempic after she and her husband, John Legend, tragically lost their third baby, Jack. “There I was, existing in a body that didn’t feel like mine, with absolutely nothing to celebrate – just the constant reminder that this body that once carried life for 20 weeks, was now just a…sad reminder,” she shared.
“Looking back on the photos actually, I think you go into, like, this Ozempic blindness, and I think a lot of people do it when they start it. You end up losing such an incredible amount of weight that you just are so excited and proud or whatever that feeling is — that you don’t realize that you’ve lost too much,” she went on.

Earlier this year, Meghan revealed she’d used Mounjaro — among making other lifestyle changes — to “help” her after her second pregnancy. “I’ve worked with a dietician, made huge lifestyle changes, started exercising with a trainer, and yes, I used science and support (shoutout to Mounjaro!) to help me after my 2nd pregnancy. And I’m so glad I did because I feel great,” she said.

In June, Lizzo recalled trying Ozempic and other GLP-1 drugs during her “weight release” journey. She said, “I tried everything. Ozempic works because you eat less food, yeah? So if you eat right, it makes you feel full. But if you can just do that on your own and get mind over matter, it’s the same item.”
7. Amanda Bynes

In June, Amanda said she was “so excited” about starting Ozempic because she was hoping to “look better in paparazzi pictures.”
8. Oprah Winfrey

In 2023, Oprah publicly shared that she’d started taking weight loss medication as a maintenance tool. “The fact that there’s a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier in my lifetime feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for,” she said. “I’m absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself.”
9. Brooks Nader

Earlier this month, Brooks opened up about her GLP-1 usage after her sisters staged an intervention and expressed their concern. “I had so many people reach out to me saying ‘I’m also addicted to GLP-1. I’m ashamed to talk about it because there’s such a stigma around it. It’s a crutch for me.’ I’m still on it. It’s a crutch for me, too. It’s not healthy. I should get off it; I’ll be honest about that,” she said.

Last year, James admitted that while he has tried Ozempic, it “didn’t really work” for him when it came to losing weight. “All it does is make you feel not hungry. But I am very rarely eating [because of hunger],” he explained. “You are looking at someone who’s eaten a king size — and when I say king-size Dairy Milk, one you give someone for Christmas — in a carwash. None of that was like: ‘Oh, I’m so hungry.’ It is not that, it’s something else.”
11. Elon Musk
When an X user complimented Elon’s appearance and asked for his secret in 2022, he replied, “Fasting,” and then added, “And wegovy.” Last Christmas, he shared a photo of himself captioned “Ozempic Santa,” before admitting in a separate post that it was “technically Mounjaro” he had been using.

Earlier this year, Josh opened up about taking weight loss medication for the first time. He said, “I’m on a GLP-1…It has suppressed, in a great way, that noise. When I wake up, I feel hunger pains, and so much of that is psychological. And what this does is it takes away that signal…It is a miracle drug.”
13. Kathy Bates

After losing a significant amount of weight over several years through lifestyle changes, Kathy clarified last October that she’d lost an additional 20 lbs due to Ozempic. “There’s been a lot of talk that I just was able to do this because of Ozempic. But I have to impress upon people out there that this was hard work for me, especially during the pandemic. It’s very hard to say you’ve had enough,” she said.

Sharon has talked openly about the negative side effects she experienced after using Ozempic. “I didn’t actually want to go this thin, but it just happened,” she said in 2023 before sharing that she’d experienced extreme nausea and a total appetite shift since using the drug.

Despite her mom’s very public warnings against Ozempic use, Kelly has praised the drug for weight loss, describing it as “amazing” and stating, “There are a million ways to lose weight — why not do it through something that isn’t as boring as working out?”
Kelly also said, “People hate on it because they want to do it. And the people who hate on it the most are the people who are secretly doing it, or pissed off that they can’t afford it. Unfortunately, right now it’s something that is very expensive, but it eventually won’t be because it actually works.”
16. Kandi Burruss

Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Kandi admitted that she had a negative experience with Ozempic. “Last year, I tried it,” she said in 2024. “I saw so many people who were trying it and losing weight. So I was like, ‘OK, I’m going to try this.’ And I didn’t lose any weight.”

“My doctor was like, ‘I don’t know what the problem is, I’m not seeing this in other people.’ ”It didn’t curb my appetite. I know some people are like, ‘Oh, I can’t eat.’ Not me! I was eating appetizers, a regular meal and dessert, OK? It didn’t stop anything for me,” Kandi said, adding that the drug not working on her left her “depressed.”
17. Chelsea Handler

In 2023, Chelsea said she’d unknowingly used Ozempic after her doctor prescribed it for her. “I didn’t even know I was on it,” she claimed, adding, “I’m an irresponsible drug user, but I’m not going to take a diabetic drug.”
18. Rebel Wilson

Last year, Rebel defended the use of Ozempic for weight maintenance, revealing that she’d briefly tried it herself and found it to be “good.” “Someone like me could have a bottomless appetite for sweets, so I think those drugs can be good,” she said.
19. Sunny Hostin

Sunny opened up about using Mounjaro after gaining weight during the COVID-19 pandemic. “I gained 40. lbs. All I did was eat … And I was horrified about the fact that I would have to come out on air. So I also took Mounjaro,” she shared. “I found that my cholesterol went up to 200 when I gained the extra weight. And I use Mounjaro, and my cholesterol is 140 now. I feel better, I think I look better, and that’s what this is about for people.”

Similarly, Harvey used Ozempic after gaining weight during the pandemic, which he described as his “free years” in a 2024 interview. “I don’t feel like I’m dieting. I feel like a normal person. I can go and have dinner with friends and not have to eat every piece of bread on the table, and then not go have ice cream when I’m done with dinner,” he shared.
21. Heather Gay

In 2023, Heather revealed that she’d been using Ozempic “for a long time” — and she later admitted that she’d felt “pressure” to take the drug because she didn’t want to grow “resentful” of her friends who were thinner than her. When her Real Housewives of Salt Lake City costars complimented her appearance in the Season 5 premiere, Heather said, “It’s been a long, overdue glow-up. Thank God for modern medicine, that’s all I can say.”
22. Scott Disick

Earlier this year, Scott insisted that he wasn’t “embarrassed” about his Mounjaro use after footage of his medication was accidentally aired on The Kardashians. “By the way, I’m not embarrassed that I took it!” he shared.
23. And finally, Janelle Rohner
Earlier this year, fitness influencer Janelle Rohner sparked immense backlash after revealing that she’d used GLP-1 as “a tool to help” her lose weight. “GLP-1s are not magic. They don’t change your lifestyle overnight — it’s just a tool to help. I still had to show up: show up for my meals, track my macros, drink my water, go on walks, do my workouts — everything that I already teach and believe in. It just helped me regain a sense of control, and it’s something that I don’t want to be ashamed of,” she said.
