The use of Ozempic and similar weight loss drugs has become fairly common in celebrity circles. More and more stars are admitting slimming down using what some have called a “miracle” drug.
The latest celeb to admit using a GLP-1 drug to lose weight is Chrissy Teigen, wife of musical superstar and EGOT John Legend.
But in Chrissy’s case, she wasn’t just trying to lose a few pounds. The story of why she her doctor suggested a prescription is far more heartbreaking.

On September 18, Chrissy shared in an episode of her Self Conscious podcast why she turned to Ozempic. She confessed that, following the 2020 loss of her and John’s son Jack, she struggled to lose the baby weight.

It wasn’t until 2022 that Chrissy revealed the baby, who they had named Jack, had no chance of survival and her own life was at risk. Doctors were forced to perform an abortion of the non-viable fetus in order to save her. At the time, she didn’t even realize that the procedure was considered an abortion, until she heard conversations about overturning Roe v. Wade. That’s when Chrissy became aware that an abortion had saved her life.
Following the loss of their third child, Chrissy suffered a “deep depression of seeing this pregnant belly with no baby in it.”
“My body was completely stuck,” she told Radar Online. “I really let myself indulge when I was pregnant. So when I lost that baby at 20 weeks, I had probably gained an extra 40 pounds.”
The Deal or No Deal Island banker has always been transparent about her fertility issues. In January 2023 after giving IVF one last try, her and John’s daughter Esti was born. In the meantime, the couple had also been working with a surrogate, and their son Wren arrived just five months later.
