TV star Daisy May Cooper has been candid about her 10 stone weight loss, which she achieved over three years.

Her weight loss journey took place between filming the first and second seasons of her BBC hit series Am I Being Unreasonable? over the course of three years from 2021 to 2024.

The 38-year-old actress first gained fame with the BAFTA-winning series This Country, which she co-created with her brother Charlie. She previously spoke about her motivation for losing weight, admitting that she was inspired to make a change after struggling with her well-being and feeling “unhappy” and “miserable”.

In an interview with The Sun TV Magazine, she discussed how surreal it felt to see the contrast between her past and present self on screen. “It was a bit mad, as since we filmed the last series and this series, I’ve had my lips done and lost about ten stone, so in those flashbacks, we were just killing ourselves laughing as we don’t even look like the same people. But it was fun.

“And I was pregnant when we started filming series two and my a**ehole of a son decided to be born seven weeks early, so we had to stop filming right in the middle. I have a brilliant son, but that was stressful.”

Appearing tonight on the Jonathan Ross show, Daisy May reflected on how they’d dealt with the change in her looks. She said: “Series one is meant to be 30 seconds before series two and in that 30 seconds I’ve lost about 10 stone and had my lips done.

“I saw the rushes and I said to the BBC, ‘God, we’re going to have a disclaimer at the beginning saying – Daisy has had her lips done, go with it and please don’t judge’.”

Daisy May has been candid about the challenges of her weight loss journey and the criticism she has faced along the way. She recalled how some people reacted negatively when she first shared her new physique in 2019. “I’ve had some messages like, ‘Well, now you’ve lost the weight, you’re not funny anymore.’ What the [explicit]? Why do women have to be [explicit] fat to be funny? That makes me so angry. I think everybody should be happy with their body,” she told Grazia.

She has been open about her struggles with body image, explaining that she fully supports body positivity but knew she needed to make a change for her health. “I’m so for body positivity, but when I was at my biggest, I was at my most miserable and I had a massive food addiction. I wasn’t healthy. I couldn’t breathe when I was walking up the stairs. I was so unhappy.”

To improve her health, Daisy May puts her transformation down to adopting the Keto Diet – which promotes a high fat low carb meal plan – after the 2020/21 Coronavirus Lockdown. But she didn’t just ditch bread and pasta as part of her wellness journey, it seems wine is off the menu, too.

When The Sunday Times asked the Never Mind the Buzzcocks team captain to share the best advice she’d ever been given? Daisy answered with: “From Denise Welch, who said stopping drinking is life-changing.”

Daisy May, who is a mother to daughter Pip, five, and son Jack, three, with her ex-husband Will Weston, as well as eight-month-old son Benji with her boyfriend DJ Anthony Huggins, said that these lifestyle changes helped her regain her happiness and energy.

Daisy May has also spoken about her experiences with cosmetic treatments. She previously admitted that fillers and Botox left her with what she described as a “pillow face.” She recalled, “My agent said to me, ‘You’ve got to stop, because you’re not going to be able to f**king act,’ because I literally could not move my eyebrows.

“It killed me, because I loved not having any creases in my forehead. But I haven’t had any surgery. I did go in to have a consultation for a tummy tuck, but the surgeon just scared the shit out of me – there were so many complications with it.”
