GREENVILLE — GE Vernova will invest $160 million in its Greenville factory to expand gas turbine manufacturing, creating 650 new jobs.

Expansion will help meet the rising global demand for energy, strengthen domestic supply chains and continue to develop American technology, the company announced Jan. 29.

The Greenville injection is part of a $600 million investment in GE Vernova sites across the country. That’s the first part of a $9 billion cumulative global capital and research and development investment plan through 2028 across the country.

“These investments will have a significant impact on the Upstate today and for years to come,” said Shane Long, supply chain leader with GE Vernova’s Gas Power business. “Beyond the immediate jobs additions and capacity expansion, this investment will allow Greenville to maintain and strengthen its position as the world’s center of gas turbine manufacturing.”

The investment will help support capacity growth, quality, industrialization and delivery efforts, and new testing capability with hydrogen fuel in Greenville.

In Greenville, gas turbines for domestic and global markets have been made at the factory since 1968.

In South Carolina, GE Vernova employs about 2,500 people. Across all 50 U.S. states, GE Vernova employs more than 18,000 workers and has 18 U.S. manufacturing facilities. Its headquarters are in Massachusetts.
