In the weeks leading up to his now 3-year-old daughter’s birth, Post Malone told People in 2022 that major life shifts were already underway.
“I’m excited for this next chapter in my life, I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, and for since I could remember I was sad,” he said. “Time to take care of my body and my family and friends, and spread as much love as we can every day.”
Malone has since been open about the progress he’s made at the start of his wellness overhaul in 2022. He revealed on The Joe Rogan Experience in June 2024 that he’s lost 55 pounds, dropping from 240 lbs. to 185 lbs.
And during a July 2023 appearance on Mythical Kitchen, he explained how becoming a father sparked his motivation to take better care of himself.
“It’s definitely made me take better care of myself. I want to be around to see her go and do kick-ass stuff,” he said. “And before, you know, I was really drinking a lot and smoking a lot and stuff. I kind of took everything and toned it down a little bit and, you know, doing my best and really got my weight going.”
And in April 2023, he addressed his fans directly on Instagram, crediting fatherhood for helping him change his habits.
“I’ve had a lot of people ask me about my weight loss and I’d suppose, performance on stage. I’m having a lot of fun performing, and have never felt healthier,” he wrote. “I guess dad life kicked in and I decided to kick soda and start eating better so I can be around for a long time for this little angel. Next up is smokes and brews, but I like to consider myself a patient man… lol!”
Malone has also spoken about the pressures that come with losing weight under public scrutiny.
“You feel an inclination, almost, as a public figure, to have to justify something that you don’t need to justify,” he explained. “First off, it’s nobody’s business. Second off, don’t just f—— assume everything.”
During an interview on The Howard Stern Show in October 2023, he clarified that his weight loss wasn’t aided by medication.
Instead, he revamped his meals while touring. “The first step was, I remember, I went on tour and I was like, ‘You know what? I’m going to eat grilled chicken, I’m going to eat carrots, and I’m going to have a little bit of white rice with … hot sauce,” he said. “Hot sauce has no calories in it. I was blown away.”
He admitted that cutting out fried foods and late-night pizza made a major difference, especially since fast food had once been his go-to after shows.
“I lost 20 pounds doing that, and I was like, let’s keep going. Let’s keep building. And we just kept f—— rocking and rolling,” he said.
