Jeremy Clarkson is now ‘microdosing’ Mounjaro after Ozempic ‘didn’t work,’ and has introduced a bizarre – and very expensive – staple into his diet as he tries to lose weight
Former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson is taking some wild steps to slim down. The star has openly detailed his ups and downs, revealing he’s changed his tactics completely after suffering through a very adverse reaction to one attempt.
Last October, Jeremy, 64, revealed that he’d undergone heart surgery, and that if he hadn’t received medical attention when he did, it could have resulted in a fatal heart attack.
He’s now trying to drop pounds and form a healthier lifestyle, but admitted that it hasn’t been an easy journey for him at all. In his column for The Times, Jeremy shared that he started taking Ozempic – a type 2 diabetes treatment – two years ago to lose weight, but the drug “didn’t work” and resulted in him getting ill.
Ozempic is an injectable medication primarily used for type 2 diabetes but due to weight loss being a side effect, many have misused the prescription drug in their quests to shed a few pounds. Ozempic does not market itself as a weight-loss drug.
The Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? host shared: “My body lost the ability to deal with gluttony but once the initial enthusiasm had worn off, my mind still wanted to breakfast on Cadbury Fruit & Nut. This meant I was sick a lot. And after I had vomited, I figured I was empty and could have another bottle and maybe another bar of chocolate too.”
Jeremy explained that he stopped taking Ozempic after just six months, half a stone heavier than when he started. Now, he’s been “microdosing” Mounjaro – another type 2 diabetes drug – for three months and it seems to be going a lot “better.”
The Grand Tour star described: “I can open the fridge, look at all the goodies in there and then close it. I haven’t lost any weight but it seems inevitable that, as I no longer want to eat my own body weight in chocolate and beef, I will.”
While he has high hopes for weight loss, Jeremy fumed at his low appetite. He explained that now he no longer craves chocolate, his new diet revolves around treating himself to luxury goods in tiny portions.
He said of his latest meal plan: “I’ve also discovered snail caviar, which is… actually unborn snails. But weirdly it does taste and feel like the real deal.
“So you can pop a teaspoon of that onto half a Ritz cracker and you have yourself the 21st century’s answer to a mediaeval banquet.”
Jeremy has admitted that having a stent fitted in his arteries to keep them open during surgery was a wake up call to take control of his health, especially considering the arrival of his second granddaughter, whom his daughter Emily welcomed in December.
In January, he revealed that he’s under strict instructions to change his rich diet, which consisted of a heavy consumption of alcohol, red meat, and smoking.
“I do feel very well. I have been to see a dietician. The dietician has given me a pretty good list and said: ‘don’t eat processed food. If it’s got more than one ingredient in it, don’t eat it.’ I feel great,” he summarised.
