Wipro Ventures, the venture capital arm of Wipro, has identified its sweet spot for investments in the $2-$5 million range, even as it remains flexible depending on the round size and company stage.

“Our strategy has been to deploy investments ranging from $1 million to $10 million, but our sweet spot is typically between $2-$5 million per round. Depending on factors such as the size of the round, company stage, and ownership allocation, we may go higher or lower,” Biplab Adhya, managing partner, Wipro Ventures, told Moneycontrol.

On February 26, the Bengaluru-based services exporter announced that it is be committing $200 million to its venture arm, Wipro Ventures, in its latest round, bringing the total investment to $500 million.

The investment approach focuses on betting on the advancements in AI and enterprise software to create industry-specific solutions, Adhya further said.

Instead of investing in foundational technologies such as language models, GPUs, and data centres, Wipro Ventures is investing in platforms and agentic AI frameworks that drive enterprise applications.

The focus is on middleware solutions that help businesses implement AI-driven technologies at scale, enhancing operations in areas like HR, finance, legal, and sales.

As a functional unit within Wipro, Wipro Ventures deploys capital directly from Wipro’s balance sheet, with returns flowing back to the company. Wipro Ventures has facilitated over 600 deployments for more than 250 customers worldwide, integrating solutions from its portfolio into enterprise environments.

While significant investments have already been made in developing foundational technologies like language models and continue to flow into building physical infrastructure such as GPUs and data centers, Wipro Ventures aims to utilise these advancements to create industry-specific platforms and agentic AI frameworks.

“We are looking at opportunities in investing in companies that are playing a meaningful role in all of these areas, not as much in the fundamental building block,” the IIT-Kharagpur computer science engineering alumnus further added.

Wipro Ventures positions itself not just as an investor but as a strategic partner, bridging the gap between startups, enterprise customers, and Wipro’s business units. With a focus on fostering a collaborative ecosystem, the firm aims to deploy emerging technologies on a global scale, ensuring that enterprises can seamlessly integrate cutting-edge innovations into their operations.
