Taylor Swift is stimulating the US economy — Here's how


Taylor Swift’sThe Eras Tour” isn’t just a lucrative venture for the pop star — it has the potential to generate $4.6 billion in U.S. consumer spending.

According to research company QuestionPro, fans are spending about $1,300 on average in categories associated with the tour.

Between elaborate costumes, expensive tickets, and travel, the star’s supporters are laying out hundreds for the occasion.

According to Fortune, the firm further estimated that if fans continue spending at this rate, Swift will indirectly generate several billion dollars in spending.

During the singer’s recent weekend of performances in Chicago, Illinois, the all-time record for hotel occupancy was broken, with more than 44,000 rooms occupied each night. According to Choose Chicago, the city’s marketing organization, $39 million was generated in total hotel revenue. Hotel occupancy rates reportedly hit 96.8% on average.


“Taylor Swift’s sold-out concerts, layered on top of one of our largest annual conventions, combined to become the most successful weekend for Chicago hotels in recent history,” President of the Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association Michael Jacobson said in a statement to Bloomberg. “These numbers come as ‘indisputable evidence of the importance of major events and conventions to the city’s economy.’”

Swift also assisted Las Vegas, Nevada, in returning to its pre-COVID-19 tourism levels in March. After her performances, the city delivered 9.6% more visitors in 2023 than in 2022. The 3.66 million tourists that traveled to the city in March was only 1.1% less than the same figure from 2019, prior to the pandemic.

She is reported to be cashing in at about $10 million per performance on the tour and booking about $11 million or $12 million in ticket sales, according to Bloomberg, which cited a source familiar with the data.

The U.S. leg of Swift’s tour is estimated to make nearly $600 million in sales for the artist and could produce even more as she announces international dates. Both Swift and Beyonce are speculated to challenge Elton John and his “Yellow Brick Road” tour, which made $800 million, for the biggest tour in music history.
