Securities and Exchange Commision (SEC) chair Paul Atkins is set to testify before the Senate Appropriation Committee Tuesday afternoon on the agency’s budget and oversight.
The hearing comes months after Atkins faced tense questioning from lawmakers over his prior work at the agency in the lead-up to the 2008 financial crisis and his plans for the SEC’s future after being confirmed to helm the commission.
Earlier this year, the commission voted to stop defending a rule that required some companies to disclose their planet-warming emissions and has eased up on regulations for the cryptocurrency industry as the Trump administration has leaned into digital currency.
The event is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. EDT.
