  • Meditation: Meditation is known to have many benefits, including improving gut health. Tanisha suggests starting the day with meditation and breath work — just simply sitting under the sun doing pranayama. This brings the body to ‘rest and digest,’ which helps the gut and hormones work better, supporting digestion.

According to a study published in the journal General Psychiatry, regular deep meditation may help regulate the gut microbiome and reduce chances of developing illnesses.

  • Warm beverages: Drinking warm beverages like aloe vera juice, lemon water, or even simple warm water with turmerichelps a great deal in improving health. According to the gut health expert, drinking them in the morning activates peristalsis, a term used for muscular contractions that help move food along the digestive tract. Some of the additional benefits of hot water include easing constipation, improving sinus health, and keeping you hydrated, among others.

  • Breakfast rich in proteins and fats: Finally, she highly recommends starting the day with a breakfast rich in proteins and fats. She shares, “Protein contains amino acids which help strengthen the gut lining, and fats have been shown to increase diversity in the gut microbiome.” According to many studies, carbohydrates, proteins, and fats are the three major macronutrients that serve as energy sources in human nutrition. Hence, adding something as simple as eggs, sprouts, and dairy products to your breakfast goes a long way in improving gut health.
