Every day, whether they’re large or small, we wake up with aspirations. While some of these might be work-related or focused on our fitness goals, for 74-year-old Vincent “Vin” DiMonte, he aspires to do one thing: “to be the best human being I can be,” as he says, adding that he seeks to “be good, do good and make each day a good day.”
His diligence, drive, dedication and determination, as he says, have been consistent over several years of his life, and that includes his commitment to fitness.

“My best friend Dennis describes me as having ‘unparalleled consistency,’ and I am 29 years older than he is,” DiMonte says, adding that these qualities must have originated during his days as a Boy Scout.
Now living in Johnston, Rhode Island, DiMonte is a regular at his local Planet Fitness gym, and he isn’t stopping anytime soon. In fact, he has an impressive streak going.

A Fitness Streak
DiMonte was first inspired to dedicate himself to fitness after the passing of his uncle and godfather, Joseph, in 2014. Starting on December 30 of that year, DiMonte has exercised every single day since then, no matter what. That means that DiMonte has worked out consistently for a decade. Even the pandemic didn’t slow him down.

“On days when my local Planet Fitness club was closed for Covid, I would go walk at a local park or a local high school parking lot,” he says.

Vin DiMonte’s Workout Routine
Strength training
DiMonte has a simple approach to his workouts: strength training followed by walking on a treadmill. He involves several different muscle groups during his strength sessions, turning to a variety of machines to target his legs, arms, back, triceps, biceps and shoulders, and he does this for typically 80 minutes at a time.

“In any given week, I focus on different muscle groups on different days,” he shares. “[For instance], one day I will focus on arms and give attention to biceps and triceps. On days when I focus on my legs, I like to do exercises that target my glutes, thighs and calves.”

Some of his favorite machines include the V-Bar Pulldown, which focuses on his back and triceps, and the Chest Press machine, which is ideal for chest and back day.
