Here’s How Taylor Swift’s Super Intense Training For The Eras Tour Inspired Sarah Snook For Her New Broadway Role

While there definitely wasn’t any shortage of celebrity guests in attendance at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, it looks like Taylor inspired Succession star Sarah Snook in a different way.

If you didn’t know, Sarah is starring in a production of The Picture of Dorian Gray right now. The show opened on Broadway in March after transferring to NYC from London’s West End. Sarah — who stars as all 26 characters — recently sat down with the New Yorker to chat about her process for the super challenging role. Or roles, plural.

The show is, as you can imagine, pretty intense. As reported by the New Yorker, there are only 3 times in the whole 2 hours Sarah is onstage when she is able to take a sip of water. When asked about her training regimen for the “athletic” show, Sarah answered, “No alcohol, no caffeine. Sleep, sleep, sleep, sleep.”

Sarah then explained how she trained to be able to withstand the length of the show. “I do my lines at pace on a treadmill, you know,” she said. And to any Swifties, this will definitely sound familiar.

If you don’t remember, back in 2023, when Taylor was crowned Time’s Person of the Year, she revealed her routine to train for the Eras Tour. And given that the tour lasted from March 2023 to December 2024, consisted of 149 shows, and spanned five continents, the training had to be pretty hardcore.

“Every day I would run on the treadmill, singing the entire setlist out loud,” Taylor said. “Fast for fast songs, and a jog or a fast walk for slow songs.” And for reference, the Eras setlist is about 3 hours long. No sweat, right?

Responding to the interviewer after she brought up Taylor, Sarah confirmed that the singer’s training routine was, in fact, the inspiration for her own Dorian Gray prep. “I heard that, and thought, ‘That’s a genius idea. I’m gonna do that,’” Sarah said.

Later in the interview, Sarah also talked about what it was like preparing for Dorian Gray as a new mom to a 6-month-old baby. And while it sounds pretty nuts, she confirmed that she was able to keep her discipline due to the rigidity of being a mom.

“But I think, to be honest, probably just in the framework of living as straight and narrow as possible—that probably wouldn’t be possible without a baby,” Sarah explained. “It’s valuing sleep, needing to keep nutrition up because she’s taking a lot of it from breastfeeding. Keeping myself healthy for being a new mom also kept myself healthy for doing this marathon. Otherwise, it’s very easy to go, ‘Had a big night tonight. Yeah, I’ll have a drink. Yeah, I’ll have a glass of wine.’ And then you’re going to bed at five and sleeping until three. With a baby, you cannot do that,” she concluded.

While Sarah has kept pretty private about her journey with motherhood, she opened up last year after winning the prestigious Olivier Award for Best Actress and explained how her baby’s routine helped her learn lines.

“I was doing a lot of night breastfeeding. And in the evening when I would wake up then rather than being on my phone and feeding her, I would run over the lines,” she explained to Harper’s Bazaar after collecting her award. “I find that if you learn your lines at night and then sleep on them they do go in more effectively,” she said. And considering that Sarah was effectively learning a “60,000 word monologue,” it’s a good thing she found her flow.
