Health experts have revealed that one “common dietary supplement” could help people with diabetes and anxiety. Not only that, but it can also help people with hypertension, aka, high blood pressure.
Written on Health, the chemical complex called magnesium taurate, is made from the mineral magnesium and taurine, an amino acid. The experts say that as well as these benefits, it can boost eye, heart and brain health.
They explain: “The available evidence about the benefits of magnesium taurate comes primarily from animal studies. It suggests that magnesium taurate may help to lower blood pressure, improve heart health, regulate insulin sensitivity, prevent and treat cataracts, lower anxiety, and help manage the effects of a traumatic brain injury.”
Lowering blood pressure and heart health
Many people may have taken magnesium before as this alone is known to regulate blood pressure. However some prefer to take magnesium taurate rather than magnesium alone. Health state that this is as it’s “more easily absorbed and causes fewer side effects such as diarrhea.”
As well as this, magnesium supplements, including magnesium taurate, can help prevent and treat high cholesterol, irregular heartbeats, a heart attack, stroke and heart disease.

Speaking of heart health, when you’re anxious or having anxiety, the feeling of a fast heartbeat is quite scary. However this tablet can help to reduce tension, decrease anxiety and relieve stress. “In a 2019 study, magnesium taurate was found to be especially effective in reducing anxiety when compared with other magnesium compounds”, Health states.
Do you have diabetes?
Individuals with type 2 diabetes and other metabolic conditions often experience insulin resistance. This condition affects the body’s ability to regulate blood sugar (glucose) levels effectively.
Research suggests that taurine may help lower blood sugar and improve insulin sensitivity. Additionally, magnesium deficiency has been associated with an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Preliminary evidence indicates that magnesium taurate may also enhance the body’s insulin response, potentially reducing the risk of diabetes.

The NHS explain that a magnesium test is used to measure the amount of magnesium in your blood and could come in handy for some. The metallic element is mainly found in the bones and is “essential to life.”
They note: “Abnormal magnesium levels can occur in conditions that affect the functioning of your kidneys or intestines. A magnesium test may be recommended as part of a series of tests if you have symptoms such as nausea, weakness, twitching, cramping or cardiac arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat).
“You may have abnormally low levels of magnesium, calcium or potassium in your blood.”
