Sean McVay has a new offseason training regimen: Daily workouts with Andrew Whitworth

Sean McVay may be a brilliant head coach, but he was a pretty good football player himself in high school. He even won Georgia State Player of the Year in 2003 over future Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson, one of the most physically gifted players in NFL history.

As a former college athlete who played wideout at Miami (Ohio), McVay is always trying to stay in peak shape, which remains true in 2025. Andrew Whitworth revealed on the Pat McAfee Show last week that he and McVay work out together every day – a new training regimen for the two of them this offseason.

“Sean this year decided this offseason we were going to try to connect in the mornings, get some training in,” Whitworth said. “Sean McVay’s trying to – I think he’s trying to relive his Miami of Ohio days a little bit. He still thinks he can get out there and make it happen on the field, so we’ve been training every morning at 6 a.m. at a gym I have here in Westlake Village.”

Whitworth says he tries to train every offseason like he’s still playing, even though he knows his NFL career is in the rearview mirror. That makes him the perfect guy for McVay to train with.

In addition to Whitworth and McVay, some other current Rams train at the same gym – including Cooper Kupp.

“We’ve got a lot of guys there,” Whitworth added. “Cooper Kupp and Puka Naua, and a lot of those guys train still. Tyler Higbee, Jordan Whittington. We’ve got some guys coming in, so it’s fun. I get to be a part of the locker room still. That feeling you love, man.”

Whitworth didn’t specify whether he and McVay train with Kupp and those others, but one would have to imagine it’d be a little awkward for the coach to work out with Kupp after essentially telling him he’s done with the Rams.

McVay and Kupp probably have a great relationship still, just based on the comments from each of them this offseason, but there has to be at least a little bit of awkwardness…right?
