What if your toilet could tell you how healthy you are? That’s exactly what Kohler’s new gadget, Dekoda, promises to do.

According to a CNET report, the home goods company has launched a smart camera that attaches to your toilet bowl and takes pictures of your excreta. Priced at $599, the device studies what you leave behind to offer insights into your gut health, hydration levels, and even potential signs of illness like blood in the stool.

Dekoda works with a rechargeable battery and a USB connection, and even has a fingerprint sensor to identify who’s using the toilet. So, every family member gets their own personalized health data. The device pairs with a subscription plan, costing between $70 and $156 per year, that keeps the analysis going.

If the thought of a camera in your toilet makes you squirm, Kohler insists there’s nothing to worry about. The company says Dekoda’s sensors “see down into your toilet and nowhere else,” and all captured data is protected with end-to-end encryption.

The product is now open for preorders, with deliveries starting October 21. Kohler hopes Dekoda will make people more aware of their digestive health—something often ignored until there’s a serious issue.

Interestingly, Kohler isn’t the first to go down this rather unusual path. A startup called Throne has also developed a toilet camera aimed at spotting early health concerns through waste analysis.

So while it may sound odd today, your future bathroom routine could very well include a quick health check—courtesy of your smart toilet.
