STORRS, Conn. (WFSB) – The UConn women are in the middle of a stretch of several weeks of summer workouts and practices.
Summer workouts are less formal, but no less important.
For the UConn Women’s Basketball team, the most important thing right now is get to know one another.
“I want to challenge myself to be another leader for this team and be a vocal leader on and off the court. Having experience and being an upperclassman puts me in the position to guide the younger guys,” said Ashlynn Shade, UConn Jr. Guard.
Blending talents and personalities is often about the new Players just added to the roster, but for the Huskies, it’s also about getting Ayanna Patterson and Caroline Ducharme back into the flow.
These two veterans have basically missed 2 straight years due to injury.
“My first time playing with contact was here. I think I’m doing pretty well with it right now. I’m still getting adjusted. It will be good to see myself grow,” said Ayanna Patterson, UConn Sophomore Forward.
“You know, the physicality again, getting comfortable getting hit, getting bumped, not just in the head but in general. But I knew that was going to be an adjustment,” Caroline Ducharm, UConn Sr. Forward.
Lots of intangibles go into team chemistry. Humor is certainly one trait that can go a long way toward piling up the victories and toughening up one’s skin.
The Camaraderie is coming. They will have some fun along the way and then put in the work toward having another big season
